Ahead of the Warriors’ Round 2 clash with the Gold Coast Titans at Mount Smart Stadium, Flashback Friday relives the maiden meeting between the club at the ground.

The Titans entered the NRL premiership in 2007, proving immediately competitive but going down 22-6 to the Warriors at Carrara Stadium in Round 16.

The teams came together again in Auckland just six weeks later with the Warriors sitting in fifth and the Titans just one win outside the top eight.

The Warriors got off to a flyer with halfback Grant Rovelli finishing off two brilliant long-range movements in the first 12 minutes. A breath-taking cut-out ball from Michael Witt saw Jerome Ropati stroll over as the hosts took an 18-0 lead into the break.

The Titans got on the board through Anthony Laffranchi in the 47th minute, but Rovelli notched his hat-trick with a solo effort and Ropati completed a double from a bomb to seal an emphatic Warriors victory.

Rovelli, a little-known North Queenslander who forged a regular halves spot with the Warriors after making his NRL debut with the club in 2006, finished the ’07 season with 10 tries from 23 games.
