The Warriors are on the verge of a massive boost ahead of the 2018 NRL season, with the NZ Herald reporting Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is set to re-sign with the club in the coming days.

New Zealand Rugby chased Tuivasa-Sheck hard over the summer, while there was said to be massive interest from NRL rivals – led by South Sydney, Wests Tigers and Gold Coast – for the off-contract Warriors skipper.

But it seems the desire to lead the Warriors to watershed success has trumped the prospect of playing in the 2019 Rugby World Cup with the All Blacks or leaving the Penrose pressure-cooker for a return to Australia.

The Herald’s David Skipwith said Warriors CEO Cameron George and Tuivasa-Sheck’s manager Bruce Sharrock were both reticent to comment on the gun fullback’s negotiations, but both implied a quick resolution was imminent – which tips the scales firmly in the Warriors’ favour.

Former Sydney Roosters star Tuivasa-Sheck, who coupled the Warriors Player of the Year award with the Kiwis Player of the Year award in 2017, was one of his side’s best in Saturday’s trial win over the Gold Coast Titans at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

The 24-year-old was widely criticised – particularly by Australian pundits – for his form in a struggling Warriors side last year. But his stats ranked with the NRL’s elite No.1s, while his gutsy efforts at the back for a team that was constantly backpedalling in the wake of an ACL injury in 2016 were certainly appreciated by more discerning judges.
